Aftercare 

Caring for a new tattoo properly is essential to ensure that it heals properly, looks good, and stays bright. Here are some instructions for taking care of your new tattoo:


 

  1. Leave the bandage on for at least two hours after the tattoo is complete. If the artist wrapped the tattoo with clingfilm, remove it after two hours and discard. If the artist used dermalise please follow the instructions given separately.
  2. Wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and mild soap. Do not use a washcloth or scrub the tattoo too hard, as this can damage the delicate new skin. Use your hands to gently wash away any excess blood, ink, or plasma.
  3. Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel or soft clean cloth. Do not rub it dry, as this can also damage the skin.
  4. Apply a thin layer of moisturiser, such as aveeno, bepantham, Shea butter, cocoa butter,  aquaphor ( or simular water based natural sensitive skin moisturiser) to the tattoo. Only use a small amount and make sure it is rubbed in evenly. Repeat this process 2-3 times a day for the first few days. When the skin feels dry and tight apply more frequently.
  5. Do not pick at scabs or flakes that form on the tattoo. Let them fall off naturally.
  6. Avoid direct sunlight, tanning beds, swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas for at least two weeks. These activities can damage the new skin and cause infection.
  7. Do not expose the tattoo to anything unclean or dirty. Wear clean clothes, use clean towels. do not expose the tattoo to pet hair or allow animals to lick or touch fresh tattoos.
  8. Wear loose, comfortable clothing over the tattoo, and avoid tight or restrictive clothing that may rub against the tattoo.
  9. Continue to clean and moisturize the tattoo until it is fully healed. This can take up to 2-4 weeks depending on the size and complexity of the tattoo.
  10. Common issues that can occur such as. Redness, painful scabbing, oozing, bleeding, rash or bruising may need different aftercare, get in touch with your artist if you experience any of those.
